Why be moody when you can shake your booty 🪩

Continuing my 10 day STAYING SUNNY THIS WINTER series, where I’m sharing the simple ways that I’m personally focusing on to stay a little brighter during this darker season.

DAY 4/10 :: Move in a way you love

Most of us think of fitness as something we MUST do to gain strength / drop the pounds / stay fit / fit in those jeans, etc … but why can’t our movement this winter also be something that we do because we also LOVE it and therefore feel a little happier?! Cue the dance party.

Here are a few facts about movement and the winter blues ::

✨ exercise releases mood booster chemicals like serotonin and endorphins
✨ even getting outside to walk for 15 min a day is shown to lift your mood
✨ joyous movement increases dopamine levels
✨doing movement that you love / that makes you laugh lightens your mood
✨ when you move your body, oxygen moves more through your body and into your brain helping you to feel lively and alert
✨ moving daily helps us to show up better in all ways of our lives including hydrating and eating healthy - which also make us feel better during the darker months

Best beach sunsets we caught in 2023 were at ::
(We saw so many more sunrises than sunsets this year!)

☀️ Placencia , Belize (it was hard to find a great spot for a sunset here, but the girls and I tracked down this spot at Sunset Pointe)

☀️ Caye Caulker, Belize (this sunset was stunning as we were on the @bluzenbelize water taxi to the north side of Caye Caulker - look at that 🌙 rise!)

☀️ Waikoloa, Hawaii (we saw turtles here too!)

☀️ Caye Caulker, Belize (sunset sting ray feeding at @iguanareefinn - then stay to have a drink for the epic sunset!)

Continuing my 10 day STAYING SUNNY THIS WINTER series, where I’m be sharing the simple ways that I’m personally focusing on to stay a little brighter during this darker season.

DAY 3/10 :: Get enough sleep

So … this one is for me personally lol (it’s me, hi - I’m the problem, it’s me) … anyone else want to work on their sleep routine a bit this winter?!

It’s not that I don’t LOVE sleep …. it’s just that the DJ in me is just a total night owl!

I definitely notice that when I get enough sleep, I feel my best the next day and this one is so important for staying sunny during the darker season.

I’m going to be trying a new bedtime ritual over the next few weeks that I hope sticks - here are a few things I’ll be incorporating ::

✨ planning my schedule for the next day so that I can put all of the to dos out of my mind
✨ shutting down devices an hour before bedtime
✨drinking herbal tea (my absolute favorite is @clubmagichour - I linked to it in my bio with a discount!)
✨ self care - a bath, reading, journaling or a few yin poses
✨a calming skincare routine with gua sha
✨ relaxing aromatherapy bed spray
✨ trying to go to bed around a consistent time each night
✨ CBD oil on my feet
✨a calming sleepy playlist

DAY 2/10 :: Letting the sunshine in

I’m going to find & notice light around me wherever I can this winter.

Here are a few ideas I’m trying ::

☀️ trying a sunrise alarm clock (and also trying to keep my phone away from my bed)
☀️ cleaning my windows regularly
☀️ opening all of the blinds in my home each morning
☀️ getting up and ready for the day (even if I’m working at home in athleisure!)
☀️ enjoying plant care in my home
☀️ trying a sun lamp
☀️ lighting more candles

I’m excited to start the month by kicking off a new series with you 🙃

Welcome to STAYING SUNNY THIS WINTER, where I’ll be sharing the simple ways that I’m personally focusing on to stay a little brighter during this darker season over the next 10 days.

It’s no secret that I’m a sunny weather fan 🫢, and I definitely feel the darker days during winter. This year I decided to lean into prevention early on as we dip into the cold weather, and so far it’s been going pretty good over here - I mean … if someone’s offering me a ticket to a beachy spot, I still wouldn’t pass it up 😝!

DAY 1 :: Prioritize Your Wellness

This is such a personal one, and for me it really has been a journey. It’s a great time of the year to have a check-up with your health team and get a reading of where you’re at and what can help you to feel your best right now.

Here are a few ideas I’ve been incorporating ::

☀️ get your bloodwork checked to see a picture of where you’re at with your vitamin/mineral levels (especially vitamin d)
☀️ stay hydrated & moisturized (this is easier to forget when it’s cold out)
☀️ eat whole in-season foods full of color, lean heavy on the veggies
☀️ find balance - enjoy your seasonal favorites in moderation
☀️ move daily doing something you love
