Are you trying to figure out where to stay in Oahu and scrolling through Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa reviews to decide if it’s your spot? I know how overwhelming this decision can feel!

I wrote this piece to share about my family’s recent experience staying there. I hope that this helps answer the questions that you have about this hotel for planning your own trip to Oahu.

All opinions are my own.

Spoiler – we truly loved our time at this resort and definitely plan to stay here again:

  • The location directly across from Waikiki Beach couldn’t be more convenient to all things Waikiki, and bouncing to our favorite destinations in Oahu.
  • The rooms are updated, spacious, and we loved the amenities.
  • We found the cultural experiences and activities offered by the resort staff to be incredibly thoughtful and educational.
  • The Hyatt service & experience that we’ve grown to love as a family shines through at this location.

I have so much more to share about our time spent here, and will break down everything that we thought would be helpful for you to know – the location, rooms, amenities, restaurants, costs, activities and more – below!

My family and I are in Oahu very often. Hawaii holds a really meaningful place in our hearts, and so many of our special moments over the years have happened around the islands. It’s such a lovely place – if you’re planning your first trip there, you must be getting excited!

During our time in Oahu, we’ve gotten to experience a ton of different hotels and accommodation options. We love sharing our experiences with others planning a visit. Staying at this Hyatt Regency location had been high on our bucket list for a long time – so we were really excited when a stay here aligned for us!

Short on time and wanting the review highlights?

Would I Stay Here Again?: Absolutely, cannot wait for our next stay. We’ve added it to our list of Waikiki favorites!
Does Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort have beach access?:
This hotel has excellent beach access. It’s not located on the sand, but it sits directly across from the beach. A quick walk across Kalākaua Avenue, and you are on world famous Waikiki Beach!
Is the Hyatt Regency Waikiki expensive?: The rates at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa are very competitive with other hotels in the area, especially for oceanfront access and spacious, updated rooms. Standard rooms begin around $250/night. The extra amenities like a pool and hot tub, a large list of daily activities and cultural events, beach chairs and towels (and so much more!) at this property add to its excellent value.

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort Reviews

We left our time here feeling like this resort prioritizes the service and accommodations that is expected from the brand. It also thoughtfully wraps its guests up in Hawaiian touches throughout their property and activity calendar. It’s one of the major hotels located along Waikiki Beach, so visitors often consider it for a stay.

With over 1200 rooms that span across two towers that are each forty-stories tall … it’s a staple backdrop to Waikiki Beach. It really takes stepping onto the property to realize how massive it actually is…but we were impressed that despite its size, we were treated like family by staff throughout our entire stay, and it felt like home to us instead of being overwhelming.

Location – Oceanfront Waikiki

This location is incredible – it’s literally directly across the street from the best known stretch of world-famous Waikiki Beach.

If you’re beach-obsessed like I am, you’ll be happy to know that the sand is pretty much just footsteps away from the hotel entrance, and one of the most iconic sunset spots on the island. All of the other favorite Waikiki beaches are in walking distance. After checking in, we definitely headed right out to the beach for sunset, and highly recommend you do the same!

Hawaii travelers often ask me where to stay in Oahu, and it honestly can be an overwhelming choice, especially if it’s your first visit. Waikiki Beach is a great location for your stay because it’s central to everything. You’ll be in the heart of it all, and it’s an easy jumping point to any other part of the island you want to visit.

We obviously love the location. During our stay, we found ourselves walking to the beach (seriously don’t miss sunset or surfing at Waikiki Beach!), the International Marketplace, some of our favorite restaurants, and our sunset cruise that launched from Waikiki Beach.

From the hotel, we drove to Kailua Beach, Ko Olina, the Koko Head Botanical Gardens, Hawaii Kai and the North Shore during this trip. The rest of the island felt very accessible to us from here.

If you’re planning on visiting Oahu without a car – you can’t go wrong with this location. You could stay on foot the entire time, or can easily catch The Bus or be picked up for tours from here.

What’s Nearby The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort

One of the nicest things about staying on this part of the island is that you’re central to everything – but the hotel itself feels peaceful, like a little oasis within Waikiki.

There are so many favorite places nearby. Some of ours are :

  • Waikiki Beach – You’re located just across the street at this hotel! It’s one of the most iconic beaches in the entire world with surfboard rentals, catamaran and canoe launches, landmarks and a golden-hour scene that draws visitors and locals every single day. Absolutely a must-visit.
  • International Marketplace – This is a fun open-air mall with local and international brand shops. You’ll most likely find yourself walking through here at least once. Be sure to take in the gorgeous Banyan tree in the center, it’s over 100 years old.
  • Historic Landmarks – The Statue of Duke Kahanamoku and Princess Bernice Pauahi Statue are both within walking distance. We love learning as much history as we can when we visit. TheHawaiian people honor and share their culture, and you’ll find so many landmarks that you can walk to around this hotel.
  • Pualeilani Atrium Shops – There’s an open-air atrium on the street level of the hotel. It’s full of local boutiques with Hawaiian art, clothing and gifts. Restaurants, coffee shops, an incredible spa. There’s even farmers markets and a hula show. Check out their events schedule and definitely plan to spend some time here. We loved Tucker & Bevvy for grabbing quick smoothies (and a surprising amount of vegan snacks)!
  • Friday Fireworks – If you’re visiting on a Friday, you can’t miss the Waikiki Friday Fireworks! We actually tried to watch them from the hotel, but weren’t able to see them (I’ve heard that you can some nights!). After all my time in Hawaii, catching the fireworks with an ocean dip is still so high on my bucket list, someday I will catch them!
  • Diamond Head – It’s about a 45 minute walk, but you could get your steps in and visit this incredible Monument.
Note : reservations for non-residents are required!
  • Other Favorite Spots – like Hanauma Bay, Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, and the Windward Coast are all within about 40 minutes driving from here.

First Impressions : Checking In to The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach

To get to the lobby, you’ll head up an escalator from the ground floor. World of Hyatt guests have their own check-in line, which makes it really convenient (especially during busy check-in times).

The lobby area itself is fairly basic, however – turn to the right and walk towards the railing. You’ll catch the breeze coming off the stunning multi-level waterfall! It’s such a beautiful backdrop, and we stopped at it more than once.

Tip : This waterfall is a great photo location! Be sure to visit it during your stay.

We were impressed by the check-in staff (honestly, we had fantastic experiences with every single staff member that we encountered at this hotel, all around).

The man that helped us was so welcoming, friendly and kind to us. We happened to catch the same staff member when we checked out, and he couldn’t have been more awesome – remembering us, and asking about our stay to be sure that we had a perfect visit.

Parking

Parking is expensive at hotels in Hawaii, there is just no way around it. Especially in this area. If you’re planning to rent a car, be sure to include parking in your budget.

Parking cost us $65/day for self parking or $80/day for valet (with unlimited in/out) during our visit. We opted for valet and found it to be really convenient.

Rooms & Views

We booked our stay with World of Hyatt points transferred from our Chase Sapphire card, and were upgraded into their Ulukou Suite. It was one of those rooms that you walk into, and your jaw instantly drops. They did such a beautiful job with this suite!

Our suite was a one bedroom, two bathroom. It had a massive living and dining room, multiple entertainment units, mini kitchen, multiple lanais, a king-size master bedroom – and an en-suite bathroom that I could seriously move into.

Room Comfort & Decor

The hotel was remodeled in 2015, and they’ve been recently updating and adding unique, fun themed rooms over the last several years. The renovations are gorgeous.

All of the rooms here (suite or not!) are bright & airy with natural colors and textures throughout their art and furniture. They add light touches that nod back to iconic Hawaiian details throughout. They don’t skimp on big furniture pieces that you can easily unpack into, and seating areas that really let you hang out in your room when you need.

We loved the comfy bedding this stay, and got great rest. I actually just learned that you can purchase Hyatt brand pillows and bedding?! Definitely looking into converting my own bedroom into a heavenly sleep space!

Our son was traveling with us, and guest services was kind to bring up a cot for him. It was surprisingly a great size and very comfortable as well. Our suite included robes in the master suite, and they were so nice to slip into after a long travel day once we settled in the first night.

Room Amenities

We are always appreciative of the reusable tote bags and water bottles that Hyatt gifts its visitors. They were included in our stay, and we loved the minimal Hawaiian designs on the bag. We used them both throughout our stay, and now at home.

Bathrooms

When I say my favorite bathroom to date! This is coming from a self-proclaimed hotel bathroom connoisseur who has seen a lot of resort bathrooms to compare.

The spa-worthy bathroom in the master bedroom is absolutely one from my dreams. It features a massive shower with a soaking tub inside. My words won’t do it enough justice, I’m not even going to try – check out the pictures …

Bathroom amenities include signature Na Ho’ola Spa Coco Mango products and dental kits that come with a toothbrush, mini toothpaste and mouthwash. Standard rooms and suites all include Toto Washlets (bidet-style toilets).

Views From The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort

As this hotel is directly across from the beach, many of its room have ocean views.

From our lanais, we had the ocean on one side, and Ko‘olau Mountains on the other. The patios were roomy with multiple seating options. We loved watching the waves and surfers from here, and even caught a rainbow one evening!

There are some really great view options to choose from at this location – if you’re set on facing a specific direction, be sure to note your preference at booking.

Other Room & Suite Options

When we were booking and checking out all the rooms, we felt impressed by having so many options, and that even the standard room styles seemed very spacious.

A spacious, standard hotel room.

With so many room options, booking here feels like you can choose the kind of stay that you want to have. Rooms range from spacious king & double queen standard rooms to junior suites (this is what we had originally booked). There are a variety of upscale suites to choose from.

A King Sized Oceanfront Junior Suite.

While I didn’t check out bathrooms in the other room styles, they all seem updated and welcoming from the pictures. One thing that we’ve noticed here and at the Grand Hyatt Kauai are the updated shower fixtures. They’re super adjustable and include multiple shower heads, even in standard rooms. Love!

What It Costs To Stay At Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach

For our stay, we redeemed points. We originally reserved an Ocean View Junior Suite for 32,000 points/night. This is a Category 5 Hotel, and with the location and updated rooms, the point value felt fair to us.

Room prices vary based on the season that you’re visiting, but prices start around $250/night for a standard room, plus resort fees.

The Pool Scene

The pool is located on the third floor and looks out over Waikiki Beach. It’s open 7:30am – 9pm daily.

The pool itself is on the basic side compared to resorts that feature more waterpark-style pools. There is a very large hot tub that’s covered (so nice if it’s drizzling!).

SWIM Restaurant is located right at the pool and has a great menu for when you want some snacks after a dip. There’s a ton of chaise lounge options to pick from surrounding the pool.

The pool deck also features cabanas that face Waikiki Beach. We spent an afternoon in a cabana and it was a lot of fun, such a great spot to hang by the pool in. Can’t go wrong with chips & guac, a margarita with an orchid in it and a beach background!

Wellness

If you read my blog or social channels, you know that my travels are rooted in wellness, self care and movement. Below are some of the thoughtful wellness touches that I noticed around the hotel :

  • Na Ho’ola Spa: Offers a variety of treatments with ocean views. My husband and I scheduled a couple’s Lomilomi massage during our stay and it was so rejuvenating.
  • Morning Yoga Classes: There are excellent yoga classes offered several days a week out of the spa (see my note below!)
  • Water Stations Throughout: I loved how accessible drinking water was wherever we were in the hotel. I always like to put a little extra attention into staying hydrated while I’m traveling, and I was so grateful for so many options all around.
  • 24/7 StayFit Gym Access
  • Easy Beach Access
  • Outdoor Activities: You’ll find an abundance of hikes, walks and water sports nearby

Nā Ho’ōla Spa

I absolutely recommend booking a visit to this spa during your trip here, it was one of the highlights during our stay.

When you walk into the spa, you’re immediately invited to relax as you’re greeted with a living plant wall. The entire space urges you to get grounded and lean into the moment.

You’ll catch ocean views throughout the spa, which definitely adds to the calming experience. And you won’t want to leave the relaxation lounge with panoramic views of the pacific. The large locker rooms have beautiful dry saunas. We were very impressed by the amenities.

I also loved to see how many traditional Hawaiian treatments are offered on the menu.

Walt and I booked a couples massage and each had our first Lomilomi massage. It was absolutely fantastic! I will definitely book another next time we visit – we both noticed how relaxed we felt, and it completely erased our achey muscles from the flight. We were glad that we chose a Hawaiian massage for our appointment, and really want to check out their other offerings inspired from the islands.

Yoga Classes

As a teacher myself, I’m not always sure of what to expect from hotel yoga programs – but I truly love the yoga offerings that were thoughtfully created here. The classes I took during my stay were accessible for a beginner, and still challenging for a seasoned yogi.

Gabbie was my teacher for both classes and she was excellent! We’ve stayed in touch and I look forward to taking her classes when I’m back next.

You’ll flow in front of the Na Ho’ola Spa panoramic windows that look out at the beach (it’s a really special location). I actually caught a gorgeous rainbow here one morning during our flow!

Eat + Drink

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach has a lot of restaurants on site. Whether you prefer to dine open air & oceanside, experience a Hawaiian luau, or want to dive into a buffet, you’ll find options here.

The Buffet At Hyatt

There’s a beautiful open-air buffet on site that looks out over the ocean. You’ll be shocked at the size of it, it’s endless with so many different options!

A salad with fresh Hawaiian veggies and tofu

As someone who’s been plant based for over a decade, there weren’t a ton of options at the stations for me here, but they have a really large salad bar with a ton of fresh veggies and tofu. We had the sweetest server who was so excited to hear about how our trip was going.

SWIM Restaurant & Bar

We had so much fun at the SWIM Restaurant. It’s located at the pool with indoor, outdoor and poolside dining. We spent a few hours hanging out and ate at one of their oceanfront cabanas. It was so much fun as a family. We had such a blast bouncing between the cabana and hot tub.

SWIM has a great happy hour and shares nightly live music.

SHOR

We didn’t get to try SHOR during this stay, but it’s a really pretty restaurant with a patio overlooking the ocean, and is supposed to have a great brunch menu!

Nā Lei Aloha Luau

I love all of the ways that Hyatt supports, incorporates, references and celebrates Hawaiian culture. Created by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, this luau was made to uplift the local community and support native Hawaiians. It has rave reviews from visitors and locals.

We didn’t get to catch the luau during our stay, but were able to hear the music as we were walking by one evening, and it was gorgeous. We definitely want to attend someday!

Sustainability & Conscious Living

We loved the efforts that we saw this hotel making during our stay to be sustainable and protect beautiful Hawaii. Some of the things that we learned they are doing to make a positive impact are:

  • Filtered re-fill hydration stations throughout the hotel, along with reusable water bottles gifted to guests.
  • Reusable tote bags for guests, to encourage using less single-use bags.
  • Sunscreen available for guests (significantly reduces sunscreen container waste, and is nice for lighter packing!).
  • Waste reduction efforts in landscaping practices.
  • Partnerships with local food providers to support locals and reduce carbon footprint. Biodegradable food containers are used throughout.
  • Linens changed on the third day of your stay to reduce water waste.
  • Motion-sensing lighting to reduce electricity use.

We also loved the “green suggestions” offered up. Things like encouraging walking, biking and using public transportation, as well as choosing locally-sourced meals marked on their menus go a long way to encourage everyone to do their part for the islands.

Guest Experience

As you’ve read in this review, our experience was wonderful at this hotel.

Everyone that we encountered on staff wanted to be sure that time there exceeded our expectations, and they went out of their way to share Aloha. The kindness didn’t go unnoticed, and really added to the feel of our stay.

We personally loved this property, and felt welcomed like a true guest during our time here. It’s a resort that we’ll be eager to return to.

Who The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort Is For (And Who Might Skip It)

If you’re looking to stay oceanfront, and be right in the heart of Waikiki Beach, this hotel is a wonderful choice or your trip. We loved our stay as a family, would visit as a couple in a heartbeat – and I definitely wouldn’t turn down a self care visit to this place as a solo traveler.

If you’re looking for a resort with a major pool experience, or if you’re looking to stay away from the Waikiki area, this hotel probably wouldn’t feel like the perfect fit for your trip. My guide to choosing the best spot to stay in Oahu breaks down how to choose the best area around the island if you’re trying to find a hotel for your travel style.

FAQs

Because we stay in Oahu so often, I regularly get asked these questions.

Is it worth it to stay on Waikiki Beach?

There are so many choices when it comes to where to stay in Oahu, and the decision can feel a little overwhelming if you’re a first-time visitor! Accommodations directly on Waikiki Beach can cost a little more than other hotels in the area, but it’s often worth to visitors, because it’s so iconic. Waikiki Beach is one of the world’s favorite beaches, and a stay directly on the beach let’s you be in the heart of it all.

Which Hyatt is best in Oahu?

The Hyatt brand is really consistent across their hotels in Oahu, and choosing the best one really comes down to your personal travel and location preferences. Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa is a visitor favorite because it sits right across from Waikiki Beach. Hyatt Centric Waikiki offers up more of a Waikiki city-like experience while still just being just a few blocks walk to the beach and in the heart of it all. Both offer beautiful accommodations that you can expect from Hyatt, and share authentic Hawaiian experiences with guests.

Does Hyatt Waikiki have free breakfast?

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa doesn’t offer a free breakfast for standard bookings. Free breakfast may be offered for World of Hyatt Globalist members and specific room rates. Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach offers a complimentary daily breakfast for its guests.

Final Thoughts : Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort Reviews

If you’re reading Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort Reviews wondering if it’s the best choice for your trip, I hope that this piece helped you get a feel for what it’s like to stay here. Our experience was great at this resort, and we’re definitely going to plan for another stay.

As someone who visits Oahu very often, and prioritizes staying as close to the beach as humanly possible wherever I go – this hotel was a really great choice for our family. Being steps away from the beach, all of the ocean view options, the numerous wellness activities to tap into, the wonderful service – it checked a ton of boxes for the things I seek out in a hotel.

I hope that you have a wonderful trip at Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa if you end up choosing it for your Oahu vacation! Enjoy every moment, you won’t be dissapointed!
