Welcome to the Cenote Azul Riviera Maya, here’s everything you need to know about visiting (SAVE + SHARE this post) ::

If you’re looking to visit unique natural resources while you’re visiting Tulum, Akumal, Playa Del Carmen or Cancun - OR are looking for something to do when there is sargassum in the ocean - you HAVE to put cenotes on your itinerary!

There are 6000+ cenotes found in Mexico, most are located on the Yucatan Peninsula.

We visited Cenote Azul when staying in Akumal. It’s a 15 minute drive north, towards Puerto Aventuras.

Here’s what you need to know :

Open daily 5:30 - 17:30
It can get REALLY crowded. To avoid crowds, arrive early, avoid weekends & avoid high season.

Cash only - but they take USD. The fee is 150 MXN (>$9 USD) Adults // 80 MXN (<$5 USD) Children.

Life jackets are not required, but you can bring your own or rent one. The rental prices are :
Life jacket 40 MXN
Mask & snorkel 70 MXN

Bring with you :
Bathing suit
Towel
Food (some snacks are available for purchase)
Water shoes (it can get slippery)

Small lockers are available for rental, but pack light!

Keep these things in mind to be respectful of the land and water :
💧 Do not wear any sunscreen (pack UV clothing instead)
💧 You’ll be asked to shower ahead of entering the water
💧 Clean up all trash after yourself

What to do at Cenote Azul?
Give yourself time to :
💧 Walk the paths around the jungle, there is something around every corner
💧 Stop at the small pools throughout the grounds (many times these are less crowded than the main pool)
💧 Snorkel in the main pool, there are so many cool fish!
💧 Jump from the 3.5mt (10.ft cliff)
💧 Spend the day and enjoy a picnic
💧 Take photos, the water is so gorgeous (arrive early!)

Heading to the Florida coastline is ALWAYS a good idea and it’s a total beach lover’s hot spot.

Here’s a few tips to get the most out of your Florida beach trip even when it’s super busy :

⛱️ Avoid peak season : Florida beaches are busiest December - April. It’s a huge spring break destination, so March & April get really busy! The fall is a GREAT time to visit when it’s quieter.

⛱️ Book in advance : especially if you’re going during a busier time, try to plan your accommodations in advance. During peak season, popular hotels and rentals sell out.

⛱️ Consider staying off the beach - you won’t hear me say this much, but hear me out … if you are traveling during a busier time, try to stay where the crowds AREN’T. There are so many incredible accommodations in walking distance of the beach that will be quieter at night.

In Fort Lauderdale, we loved staying along the canal - it was so quiet when the beachfront was packed & just a gorgeous 10 min walk to the beach.

⛱️ Visit the beach in the morning when it’s not crowded. It tends to get busier starting around 11am. Grab some early morning beach time for less crowds & you’ll have most of the beach to yourself!

⛱️ Try a less busy destination. The areas surrounding Miami and Fort Lauderdale are BUSY during peak season. But there are sooo many wonderful towns surrounding them. Pick a sleepier beach town that’s accessible to the city and you can have fun at both!

Above all, wear your spf, leave the beach cleaner than you found it and have FUN 🏖️🐚👙

5 things to do when you visit 👇

☀️ watch the sunrise : book an oceanfront condo & wake up with the sun - it’s PURE magic

🐚 take a shell walk : strolling along the bay you’ll find beautiful shells (I’ve found sea glass too!)

🐢 snorkel with the sea turtles : much of the bay is shallow and it’s perfect for snorkeling. Sea turtles love to hang here! Be sure to :
- stay 10 feet away from sea turtles
- wear a UV protective shirt or reef safe sunscreen to protect ocean life
- read about how to best protect sea turtles when swimming near them

🌮 walk to @labuenavida_akumal for lunch or dinner (It’s the cutest spot with oceanfront dining, swing chairs & tree houses. They even have a little pool!)

🏖️ lay out all day with your favorite book : the vibes are SO chill here & it’s the perfect spot to relax
